  Condo development    Howson Block

Have been out of town so can see some changes in development.  The condo is coming along and there are sure a lot of trees gone below Camozzi Road.  I imagine it will be a challenge building on the side of that hill.  The other shot is a site on Camozzi Road that was loaded with trees just awhile ago.

Howson Block is actually starting to look finished enough to give an idea of its potential.  I hope their hard work pays off!

Ice crystals on the trees

Ice on trees caused by fog feb 21 08

Early Thursday morning I noticed a bit of ice on the trees out back.  A couple of hours later the size of the formations had increased significantly so I took this photo.  If you click on the thumbnail the image will enlarge and you can see them more clearly.

“Enough!!”

I really delight in Revelstoke and its seasons.  Have been doing so for years.  How can it be winter without a heap of snow?  Those poor souls in the Okanagan must have such boring winters!  It’s just beige countryside with a skiff of snow a few times each year.  But this February I find myself saying, “That’s enough.”

I want it to go away.

Now.

Really, I mean it.

Sigh.

2008 Assessments

January 12th, 2008 by revelstokeviews

Update Feb/08:  Now that the assessments are no longer available I have removed the link and the details of how to access it.  It will be available again in January 2009.  The following information, however, may still be of interest…

Inflated sales or inflated assessments?

So many of us have been ooohing and aaaahing in reaction to how prices have gone up.  And I suspect we all have heard at least one example of how so-an-so sold his/her property for, say, two hundred thousand more than the asking price!  On the surface it would appear that sellers are making a killing.  However, you may be suprised.  If you page back to where you entered your address, re-enter Vernon and your address and then click on ‘GET SOLD PROPERTIES’ then you can review the assessments and sale prices of properties sold in 2007.  Of 110 properties that I reviewed, 51 of them sold for less than their assessed price (a surprise in itself) but more surprising to me was the fact that in some cases the property sold for 100 thousand or more LESS than the assessed value.  Yikes!  That had to hurt!

It was delightful again to see babies, kids, dogs and adults out for the Santa Claus Parade yesterday.  It may not be apparent in the photo above at the left, but there were three or four dogs in that mix and no hassles that I could see.

Here are two pix of the same view:  one from Nov 27th and the second Dec 3rd.  On the left hand side near the lamp post you can see the top of a van going by on the other side of the snowpile.

Howson Block Nov 17, 2007

Work on the Howson Block continues.  It looks like the third storey will be living quarters with a porch of some sort (why else would they leave that area in front free).  Will be interesting to see what all goes in there!  I will feature another photo in a few weeks.  Maybe some day I will see if I can get some interior shots to share.311 First St. W. Oct 07

About a week ago this is how 311 First St. W. looked as workers made renovations on the old MacLeod’s site.  I have heard that condos are going in.  Can anyone confirm this?

Yuck!

My poor yard Nov 02 07

One of the many things I love about Revelstoke is the fact we have seasons.  Sometimes it seems we have more than the traditional four.  There are, however, two times of the year I don’t appreciate.  This happens to be one of them.  That time when my flowers are all dead, the trees bare, the leaves are soggy and ugly in the yard, and the sky is particularly grey as it tries to build up a decent snowfall.  Late winter is hard too, as the snow is dirty and receding, exposing the muck and dead vegetation underneath.  And absolutely everything has a coating of dust!  These two times of the year are in a kind of limbo:  they don’t have the vibrancy of summer growth and sunshine, or they don’t have the bite and brightness of the winter white.  I’m thankful these periods are brief…
